SSL Security Exceptions

Sometimes in Firefox, you might stumble over a page with this on it:

Securessl.png

This is Firefox's way of protecting you from a Man-in-the-Middle attack. Notice how in the above picture, the host name (kady-amd.education.ucsb.edu) does not match the url (webre.education.ucsb.edu). If this shows up up on a site like an online bank, or something else simple, stop right now. This tutorial is only for getting to WebRE. If you'd like to get past this error message, please continue.

Adding an Exception

  1. Click on the blue link Or you can add an exception...
  2. You will see something like this:
    • Securessl2.png
  3. Click on the Add Exception... button and this window should pop-up:
    • Addsecurityexception1.png
  4. Click on the Get Certificate button on the top left and the greyed out options should be enabled to see this:
    • Addsecurityexception2.png
  5. You can check Permanently store this exception if you would rather not go through this procedure again.
  6. Click Confirm Security Exception and you should be good to go.
